Heidenheim’s ascent up the leagues continued after 5 seasons in the 3.Liga and achieved promotion to the 2.Bundesliga for the first time at the end of the 2013-14 season.

Their start to the campaign put them amongst the leading contenders for the promotion spots but have faded away and have only won once in the last nine games going back to matchday 14.

Last Time Out: Fortuna 3-2 Heidenheim

This is the first meeting at the Voith-Arena between the two teams, but Fortuna beat Heidenheim earlier this season at the ESPRIT Arena in a ‘backwards and forwards’ game which ended 3-2. Goals from Florian Niederlechner twice pegged back goals from Charli Benschop before Joel Pohjanpalo settled the contest in the 82nd minute.

Head to Head:

Matches Played: 1

Fortuna wins: 1

Draws: 0

Heidenheim wins: 0

Team News:

Christian Gartner, Heinrich Schmidtgal and Christopher Avevor look to be the names missing from the starting XI for the long-term and Ihlas Bebou trained in Aksoy’s first training session on Wednesday.

It remains to be seen how Aksoy lines the team up, Christian Gartner told the media this week that the new coach tends to line-up with a 4-4-2 formation and play fast, attacking football.

Aksoy will face the media on Friday, and we’ll have updates and quotes from the press conference on Friday afternoon
