English Premier

2015-12-05 - Arsenal v Sunderland

Arsenal will be glad that it is the month of December after they have failed to win a league match in the whole of November. Now they will look to return to winning ways with their good Premier League record against the Black Cats. Sunderland are doing well with back to back clean sheet wins, but it will be interesting to see if they can keep that up with the visit to the Emirates stadium.

In their last three Premier League games Arsenal have managed 2 draws and a defeat. Their caused has not been helped by the number of injuries that hit them and that has caused them to lost their pace and fluidity in their game. They have drawn two of their last three games by a 1-1 scoreline and they have managed to keep the goals flowing though. Arsenal have scored in each of their last eight Premier League games now and they also do have four clean sheets in their last six against the Black Cats.

However, four of their last seven meetings at the Emirates in the Premier League have ended in 0-0 draws. Arsene Wenger's side have been held to a 0-0 at home more often by Sunderland than any other team in the history of the Premier League. Arsenal will be glad that Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are not one of those players out injured in the team. Giroud has scored three and assisted two in his five appearances against Sunderland in the league while Ozil has eleven assists and two goals in his last twelve Premier League starts.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Sunderland are playing well after managing back to back wins over Crystal Palace and Stoke. And credits must be given to Sam Allardyce, as he has done in six games with the club, what Dick Advocaat managed in seventeen, that is, win three Premier League matches this season. Still make no mistake it is a tough game for them still.

For the record, Sunderland have failed to beat Arsenal at the last eleven attempts in the Premier League (D4 L7) and have never won away at Arsenal (D5 L9). Their away win at Palace ended a four match losing streak on their travels, where they failed to score in three of those defeats.

Now it should also be noted that Sam Allardyce has lost his last seven head to heads with Arsene Wenger and with the Black Cats never having won at Arsenal in the Premier League, it’s unlikely that is going to change. Despite the injuries in the side Arsenal are likely to win this match and get the three points.

Take Arsenal and give the 1 1/2 ball.
